What is Database engines?
In short
The database products a platform can run, whether managed for you or available to self-host.
Database engines are the database products a platform supports, and the list tells you whether a migration means switching products or only switching hosts. The range is wide. Acquia Cloud lists MySQL alone, and Back4App lists MongoDB alone. Aptible covers PostgreSQL, Redis, MySQL, Elasticsearch and InfluxDB. Aiven runs Kafka, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Valkey and MySQL, while Microsoft Azure lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Cosmos DB and Redis. For small teams, a single engine keeps operations simple; a wider list helps if you plan to standardise on one vendor later.
