Frequently asked questions

How much does object storage cost per GB?
The headline rate is dollars per GB-month of data stored, shown in the table. On top of that you pay for egress and per-request operations, so compare all three columns rather than storage price alone.
Why does object storage egress cost so much?
Many providers store data cheaply but charge heavily to read it out (egress). The Egress price column exposes this; a low storage rate with high egress can cost more than a slightly pricier provider with free or cheap egress.
Which object storage has free egress?
Some S3-compatible providers include free or unlimited egress, which is a huge saving for read-heavy workloads. The Egress price and Free egress columns show which providers do; sort by egress to find them.
Is the storage S3-compatible?
The S3 compatible column shows whether a provider speaks the Amazon S3 API, which lets you reuse existing tools and SDKs with little change. Most modern object stores are S3-compatible.
What are PUT and GET request costs?
Object stores bill per thousand write (PUT) and read (GET) operations on top of storage and egress. For workloads with many small objects these request fees add up, so check them alongside the per-GB rate.
What is the cheapest object storage?
It depends on your read pattern. For archival, sort by storage price; for read-heavy serving, weigh egress most. The cheapest all-in provider is often one with a modest storage rate and free egress.
